The music video Karuvai Malarndhida celebrates mother-daughter bond.

Update: 2019-05-18 18:50 GMT

The video begins with the panoramic view of a village in Tamil Nadu. In a few minutes, the audience is transported to an agraharam, where a daughter sings for her mother. As the song goes on, different shades of the mother-daughter relationship come alive on screen. Dr Geetha Mohandhas, who wrote the lyrics and scored the music for the song Karuvai Malarndhida, says it is a tribute to mothers. “The song is for all mothers in the world and those who take care of their mothers,” she adds.

It was a poem first. “I wrote it a few years ago. I am so happy that I could bring it out as a song.  Kalyani raga has been used for the song,” she says. In the video, Geetha and her mother Dharmambal just had to translate their real-life bond. “There was no other choice than them,” says Jishnu Venugopal, director of Karuvai Malarndhida.

Ask him about setting the song in Tamil Nadu, he says, “It is a Tamil song. So, Tamil culture is important here. We chose to do the shooting at Kallidaikurichi, a village in Tamil Nadu. We studied the Tamil culture, especially the relationship between mother and daughter. I found Tamilians more intense in relationships,” he says.

Music is by Viswajith. The song has garnered a good amount of views within a few days of its release.
