Puppy movie review: May go well with certain types of audiences

The film begins in a college classroom where Prabhu (Varun) and his friend (director Nattu Dev) are caught watching porn videos and they get suspended. Prabhu is sexually starved and what really troubles him is still being a ‘morattu’ single  (a virgin) when others of his age have undergone the ‘experience’. He seeks the help of his senior (Yogi Babu), a football aspirant. However, all his attempts turn futile. Prabhu’s best companion is a female Labrador Puppy (title justified) and he is fond of her.

Meanwhile, Ramya (Samyukta Hegde) comes to his house as a tenant. Prabhu and Ramya start liking each other and eventually love blossoms. On one of their private meetings, they end up making out, which leads to Ramya getting pregnant.  Prabhu wants to abort the child and Ramya is not for it. This leads to a rift in their relationship. In the meantime, Puppy is also carrying. A health complication to the Puppy leads to the climax, which opens Prabhu’s eyes and he realizes the value of life and has a change of mind.

Varun who was seen in small roles has graduated to a hero and has aptly chosen a subject and delivers a decent performance. However, he is loud at times and has one single expression throughout the film. Samyukta is adequate, although her character is underdeveloped. Yogi Babu is a revelation and it looks as though he is the hero of the film. His gags are enjoyable and he equally shines in emotional scenes. The narrative flow is uneven as the screenplay meanders with no solid scenes. At many places, the dialogue jumps are evident because of censor mutes. Dharankumar’s music is good.
