A still from Allu Ramendran

Director: Bilahari

Cast: Kunchacko Boban, Chandini Sreedharan, Krishna Sankar, Aparna Balamurali, Salim Kumar, Dharmajan Bolgatty

Malayalam movie industry has been blessed with so many young directors recently and Bilahari is the latest addition to the lot. Bilahari’s Allu Ramendran had fetched the attention of film lovers quickly due to its intriguing title and the looks of Kunchacko Boban. The songs and the trailer were received well, which raised hopes of a good entertainer from Bilahari and team.

Ramendran (Kunchacko Boban) is a police driver who is wedded to Viji (Chandini Sreedharan). His family consists of his father (Kochu Preman) and sister Swathy (Aparna Balamurali). Jithu (Krishna Sankar) is a carefree youngster who loves football and dreams of going back to Dubai for work. Ayyappadas (Dharmajan Bolgatty) is his best friend. Ramendran is a rigid police officer who gets offended easily. The real trouble for him begins when the jeep he drives gets regularly punctured, causing interruption in his duty, and his colleagues make mockery of him. This even causes trouble in his personal life. After he earns the name ‘Allu Ramendran’, he tries to find who’s putting allu (iron nails) on his path causing the routine punctures. Meanwhile, Jithu and Swathy fall in love and the romantic track is shown adoringly in the first half. The interval scene comes as a surprise and that sets the mood for an interesting second half.

Allu Ramendran doesn’t feature a romantic, charming Kunchacko Boban. The director has presented a little serious, firm side of the actor, which we don’t get to see often. And the actor has put in his effort to do the role convincingly. Chandini as Viji has done her role cutely. Aparna delivers a matured performance as the amiable Swathy. Krishna Sankar puts up an effortless performance as Jithu, which entertains us throughout. Bilahari has handled the movie well and has succeeded in presenting a good entertainer. He should be well appreciated for giving ample space to perform to supporting actors like Salim Kumar, Dharmajan, Sreenath Bhasi, Assim Jamal and Hareesh Perumanna. The situational humour by these actors provides good laugh.

The cinematography by Jimshi Khalid gels well with the mood of the movie. The script by Girish, Sajin and Vineeth has all the elements for a fine entertainer. Allu Ramendran is one of those movies which won’t disappoint you.
