Misbehaviour With Malayalam Actress; Kerala Culture Minister Assures Action
Police serve notice on absconding actor Shine Tom Chacko, direct him to appear before probe officials on Saturday
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala's Culture Minister, Saji Cherian, stated on Friday that the allegations made by Malayalam actress Vincy Aloshious against her co-actor, Shine Tom Chacko, who is accused of misbehaving with her on a film set, will be investigated.
Cherian stated that the complaint filed by the actress is a serious issue and requires a thorough investigation. He praised her for publicly sharing her experience and demonstrating the courage to call out inappropriate behavior, emphasizing that such incidents are unacceptable in the Malayalam film industry, which is respected nationwide.
The government has vowed to take strict action if the allegations against Shine Tom Chacko are proven true. Minister Cherian also urged for the establishment of effective internal mechanisms within the film industry. He called for the film community to respond promptly when such complaints arise.
It is no secret that many internal committees on film sets exist only on paper and do not adhere to established guidelines.
In a related development, the Ernakulam North police station has instructed Shine Tom Chacko to appear before the officers concerned on Saturday. A notice was issued to him on Friday, asking for his presence at the North Police Station.
However, sources close to Chacko indicate that he is unlikely to comply with the request, as he plans to seek more time to respond to the police and is consulting with legal counsel regarding the complaint.
In her allegations, Vincy, who has appeared in numerous films, claimed that Shine Tom Chacko made sexually suggestive comments while under the influence of drugs. She reported that when she went to a room to change her clothes, the actor followed her and even offered to help her change, which she considered a form of sexual advancement.
The Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) has set up a three-member committee to investigate Vincy’s complaint.
Meanwhile, the police are also looking into why Chacko fled from the hotel during a raid. CCTV footage showed that he escaped through a window, jumping from the third floor into a swimming pool before leaving the hotel premises in Kochi. Authorities aim to determine the reasons behind his escape and whether he had consumed drugs, possessed drugs, or received substances from guests who visited him in the hotel room.
