Jishnu Pranoy, a first-year engineering student, was found dead in his college under mysterious circumstances on January 6th, 2017. The family that has been protesting since then travelled from their village to Thiruvananthapuram to the DGP’s office demanding justice. Further investigation threw lights on the life and death of the 18-year-old and his college official’s hand in his demise. The case took the country by storm. Directed by Noushad Alathur, Grandday Film Corporation is making a film based on the incident. The film titled Viral 2019 has already started rolling at various locations at Kannur. The film’s puja and switch-on ceremony was held at the Jishnu Memorial in Nadapuram.
The death of Jishnu caused violent protests with many students coming out and sharing the harassment they were facing in the same college. It was reportedly revealed that there are torture rooms in the college where students are assaulted. Many mainstream media didn't mention the name of the college, which caused an intense social media rage against the media and the college management for trying to cover up the issue.
Viral 2019 had already made headlines following its announcement, for other reasons too. Almost all the cast and crew were selected from online polling and auditions. The movie also gave an opportunity to the transgender community to attend the auditions, which they claim to be the first in the country. Along with Noushad Alathur, seven more directors will be associating in the movie.
