Mohanlal reveals the cast of Barroz

Spanish actor Rafael Amargo and Paz Vega will be seen as Vasco da Gama and wife in Barroz.

When Mohanlal’s blog post in April was out, it was followed by a loud shriek of surprise from the virtual world. That the 59-year-old super star with 340 movies to his credit in his 41 years of acting career decided to don the director’s cap for the first time, all of his fans were elated. To add to the excitement, he revealed that the film, Barroz – Guardian of D’Gama’s treasure, would be a children’s fantasy 3D movie and a multi-lingual production with a stellar cast and crew.

Now, the actor has, announced that actor-dancer Rafael Amargo would portray Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama in the film while actress Paz Vega, known for Rambo:The Last Blood, The Human Contract, Mary of Nazareth and Acts of Vengeance, would play the part of Gama’s wife The Spanish actors would join the sets of Barroz in Goa as the shooting commences in October.

In the video, Mohanlal says, “Barroz documents the maritime history of Portugal, Spain, Africa and India and the shared heritage we inherited from our ancestors.” Mohanlal will be seen in the titular role of Barroz, a 400-year-old fictional guardian of the treasures of Gama which, he is determined to hand over only to Gama’s rightful heir. The adventures of Barroz across time and space to prove that a kid, who claims to be Gama’s descendant, is the treasure’s rightful heir are chronicled in the film.

Barroz, interestingly, marks the return of Jijo Punnoose, director of Padayottam and the first Indian 3D movie My Dear Kuttichathan, to filmdom as the screenwriter of the film. Touted to be one of the biggest productions in Malayalam, Barroz, produced by Antony Perumbavoor has K.U. Mohanan as the cinematographer and will be shot in Goa and Portugal.

Before the film goes on the floors, Mohanlal will wrap up Marakkar: Arabikkadalinte Simham, another big budget multilingual project with Priyadarshan at the helm. Also awaiting release are Ittymaani: Made in China, Big Brother and Kollywood movie Kaappan.
