Premiered at the International Film Festival of Kerala last year, Udalazham will release in theaters on December 6, informed director Unnikrishnan Avala at a press conference held at Thiruvananthapuram. Director Aashiq Abu is presenting the film.

The movie stars Mani and Indrans in the lead roles with the former portraying the character of a tribal transgender person. Soumya plays his wife. It also has top Malayalam artists Joy Mathew, Sajitha Madathil, and Anumol. The movie narrates the story of Gulikan (Mani) and his wife Madhi, who live among a small gypsy tribe near a dense forest. Every year, the floods displace their tribe, causing them to move from one place to another around the forest. It is a well-known fact that Gulikan is a woman in a man’s body. He does not hide his true nature, which results in frequent sexual abuse by the village men. While Gulikan and Madhi love each other deeply, she has an affair with the fishmonger to satisfy her sexual desires. One day, the forest chief “catches” them in a compromised position and spreads the news in the village. Enraged by Madhi’s infidelity, the villagers are convinced she is the carrier of the venereal diseases plaguing the village and torch her hut. Screened at various festivals earlier including MAMI, the movie received brilliant feedback. Cinematographer is Muhammad A. and music is done by Bijibal.
