Thiruvananthapuram: Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan who also holds the home portfolio has come under sharp criticism for maintaining silence on the brutal murder of youth Congress leader Shuhaib in his home district Kannur. Actor Joy Mathew took to social media to criticise the chief minister. In a Facebook post he said; “the chief minister who also holds the portfolio of police department declares that a film song is an issue of freedom of expression and we should oppose the intolerance towards the song using teeth and nails that we do not have.

By not arresting the assailants responsible for the brutal murder of Youth Congress worker Shuhaib in Kannur, days after the ghastly incident, is the chief minister admitting that the murderers too enjoyed freedom of expression." In a Facebook post on Thursday the chief minister while referring to the song “Manikya Malaraya Poovi” in film Oru Adaar Love directed by Omar Lulu, said the intolerance shown towards this song by a section of Muslim fundamentalists who even filed a complaint in Hyderabad police alleging that the song denigrates the Prophet, was unacceptable.
