Nivin Pauly-starrer Moothon will open the Mumbai International Film Festival (Jio MAMI) at its 21st edition. This second feature film of actor-director Geethu Mohandas, whose debut directorial Liar’s Dice had won two National Awards – one, for her husband Rajeev Ravi as the best cinematographer and the other for Geetanjali Thapa for best actress.

Set in Lakshadweep, Moothon, Geethu’s first directorial Malayalam, is a crime-based bilingual, also made in Hindi. Produced by Anurag Kahyap, who has also penned the Hindi dialogues in the film, Moothon marks the Bollywood debut of Nivin Pauly, who already enjoys a great fan following down South. The film, about a boy searching for his elder brother, also has on board actors Sobhita Dhulipala and Shashank Arora, known for Made in Heaven series, apart from Malayalam actors Dileesh Pothan, Roshan Mathew and Melissa Raju Thomas.

The screenplay of Moothon has already won Geethu the Global Filmmaking Award at the Sundance Film Festival. Jointly produced by Aanand L. Rai,  Ajay G. Rai and Alan McAlex, the film has Rajeev Ravi as the cinematographer, B. Ajitkumar as the editor and Kunal Sharma as the sound designer. That Moothon will be the inaugural film at MAMI comes as a matter of pride for the cast and crew.

Incidentally, Geethu’s Liar's Dice had also had its world premiere at the MAMI in 2013, after which it went on to won a horde of international awards. The winning streak, hopefully, will continue for Moothon too!
