Among the hundreds who went early morning to catch a seat at the Sree Kumar Theatre, Thiruvananthapuram was Sunny Wayne. He watched with the many fans of Tamil superstar Vijay, a re-release of his film Pokkiri, 10 years after its release. At the end of the screening, Sunny stood up to announce a new film — Pokkiri Simon, which comes with the tagline: Oru Kadutha Aaradhakan.

“Sunny will play the title character, a huge Vijay fan from Kerala,” says Ampady K., who wrote the story, screenplay and dialogues of the film, directed by Jijo Antony and produced by Krishnan Sethukumar. “We had been in talks with the fans, we have been observing them to make the film. One keeps hearing the question whether there really are so many fans for Vijay in Kerala. But you will find a ten-year-old to a man in his 70s among the fans. This is a story of those people deeply addicted to this man, of their happiness and problems,” Ampady adds. The film will start shooting by February-March next year.
