Hyderabad: Filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj, known for working with some of the biggest stars in the South Indian film industry, recently interacted with students during a masterclass organised by Student Tribe. He spoke on various topics related to the film making.

Subbaraj said a filmmaker should consider a film a failure only when they feel they could have written or edited it better. He added that box-office numbers alone cannot determine a film's success or failure, as several factors influence its performance.

During the interaction, a student asked why the Tamil film industry had not produced a Rs.1,000-crore film despite having established actors.

Responding humorously, Subbaraj said, “How did the Telugu industry make Rs. 1,000 crore? You answer me how, and I'll tell you why.”

He cited films such as KGF and Pushpa, saying their makers might not have set out with a specific target of earning Rs.1,000 crore. However, once these films reached audiences, they gained popularity across India and even beyond.

“It's a phenomenon. It's like magic that happens here and there. You can't plan for magic to happen. It just happens by itself,” he said.
