Proceedings in the divorce case involving Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and TVK president C. Joseph Vijay and his wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam, have been adjourned to August 7 after neither party appeared before the court when the matter came up for hearing on June 15.

Sangeetha filed a divorce petition before the Chengalpattu Family Court in February 2026, citing irreconcilable differences with actor-turned-politician Vijay. She also sought the right to reside in their matrimonial home in Neelankarai, along with permanent alimony.

In her petition, Sangeetha stated that she and Vijay had been married for 26 years and that she had devoted herself to managing the household and raising their two children — Jason Sanjay, 25, and Dhivya Sasha, 20. She argued that, having become accustomed to Vijay’s lifestyle during their marriage, she had no alternative residence that matched the standard of living she had enjoyed.

In recent weeks, reports have suggested the possibility of a reconciliation between the couple. There has also been speculation over whether the court proceedings would be conducted virtually or through an in-person appearance.
