Kamal Haasan Is Said To Have Played A Crucial Role In Reviving The Project
Kamal Haasan is said to have played a crucial role in reviving the project.
Kamal Haasan and Shankar created history with their 1990s blockbuster Indian (Bharateeyudu). The duo reunited after nearly three decades for its sequel, Indian 2, but the film failed to live up to expectations and disappointed audiences. Now, there is fresh buzz that the makers are preparing to bring the third instalment, Indian 3, to theatres.
Interestingly, Kamal Haasan is said to have played a crucial role in reviving the project. Lyca Productions' Subaskaran had reportedly put the film on hold following the disastrous response to Indian 2. Though nearly 95 per cent of Indian 3 had already been shot alongside the second part, the producer was reluctant to take another risk with its release.
However, Kamal reportedly felt that shelving the film would mean wasting all the effort and money already invested in it. He is said to have convinced Subaskaran to give Shankar another opportunity to rework the film, complete the remaining portions and prepare it for release.
Shankar has now reportedly resumed work on Indian 3 and is keen to make a strong comeback with the film. However, there seems to be a budget hurdle. The director is said to have sought an additional Rs 50 crore to complete the project, but the producer was not willing to approve such a huge amount.
Instead, Subaskaran reportedly asked Shankar to make the best use of the footage already available and restrict further expenditure to editing, studio work and post-production. It remains to be seen whether Shankar can turn the already-shot material into a compelling third instalment and revive the franchise.
