Kayiru (Rope), the Tamil film which made it to several international festivals and won laurels in various categories, will soon be released in theatres in India.

Ganesh, a former associate of ace Malayalam filmmaker Fazil, and co-director of hit films like Vijay’s Kadhalukku Mariyadhai, Kannukul Nilavu and Vikram’s Kaasi, debuts with the megaphone.

Ganesh says, “The film highlights the significance of Tamil culture and stresses the need to preserve and nurture it. The story revolves around a ‘Boom Boom Mattukaran’, a traditional soothsayer who goes door-to-door with a young bull every morning to make predictions. He falls in love with a girl. He is pushed to a situation where he must give up his profession if he wants to marry the girl. This means not only losing the bull that he dearly loves, but also giving up something that is not just his profession but also a tradition that was passed down to him by his father. The choice he makes forms the rest of the story.”

The film also sends out a social message about being kind to animals, as they are interdependent on man for survival, Ganesh adds.

Produced by Skyway Pictures, the film features SR Gunaa, Kavya Madhav, Kandhasamy and Cheranraj in important roles. Prithivy and Vijay Anand have scored music for the film. Cinematography is by Jeyan Unnithan and editing is by Karthik. The movie will hit the marquee on March 13.
