Actor Simbu’s earlier initiative ‘spread love’ and call for unity among Kannadigas and Tamils over the Cauvery water issue was initially mocked at and he was subjected to trolls. Eventually, STR was to receive good response from Karnataka. The Chekka Chivantha Vaanam star has once again come forward with an innovative idea to help the people of the Cyclone Gaja-hit Cauvery Delta areas that may prove fruitful.

The actor, through a viral video #SaveDelta, suggested the public could donate money to social causes by using their mobile phones to donate, in a manner similar to how they would recharge their phones or pay for ringtones. He requested all network providers in Tamil Nadu to come together and provide a common number so that citizens who don’t have internet banking facilities could contribute their mite, ranging from a low of Rs10 to Rs 100 through their phones to the victims of Cyclone Gaja. “If they get the approval from the government, everyone will accept it and donate” Simbu added.

Sources close to STR confirm that the mobile network provider Airtel is working on a plan to implement his suggestion.  If all goes well with the government, an official announcement is expected from them.  Way to go Simbu!

Last April, Simbu had requested the people in Karnataka to give a glass of water to Tamilians in the state between 3 pm and 6 pm on a particular day and post their videos on social media. His campaign #UniteForHumanity received a tremendous response from people of different age groups and classes who were seen sharing glasses of water with their friends, colleagues, neighbours and even strangers.

The teaser of Simbu’s Vandha Raajavaathan Varuven, a remake of Tollywood hit Attarintiki Daredi in Sundar C’s direction, will be unveiled on November 29. Incidentally, Lyca Productions, which is bankrolling the film, made the announcement that they are releasing their magnum opus Superstar Rajini’s 2.O in a massive way on 10,000 screens worldwide on the same day.
