Sivaji Ganesan magic reigns supreme

The film released in 1972 ran for 25 weeks and it had a good run in Sri Lanka as well.

Vasantha Maligai digital version re-release celebrations

The rerelease of digitalised versions of thespian Sivaji Ganesan’s yesteryear classics like Karnan, Veerapandiya Kattabomman, Pudhiya Paravai, Pasamalar and Thiruvilayadal have been creating records at the box office.

Joining the long list is D.Ramanaidu produced Vasantha Maligai, the digital version of which was released on Friday had a tremendous opening with audiences celebrating it with full verve replete with paal abhishekam to Sivaji’s huge cutouts, burning crackers and breaking coconuts.

Vasantha Maligai, a remake of Telugu super hit Prem Nagar with Nageswara Rao and Vanisree playing the lead pair, was directed by KS Prakash. The Tamil version also starred Vanisree as the female lead with Major Sundarrajan, Nagesh, Helen, and Balaji in supporting roles. Music by ace musician KV Mahadevan was one of the main stays in the film and all the songs including ‘Mayakkam Enna’, ‘Yaarukkaga’, ‘Kudi Magane’ in legendary Kannadasan’s lyrics were chartbusters. The film released in 1972 ran for 25 weeks and it had a good run in Sri Lanka as well.

Talking about the response, distributor Nagaraja who rereleased it, said - “Sivaji sir’s magic still reigns. It has opened in a big way throughout Tamil Nadu and the audiences are enjoying scene by scene with thunderous applause. I am confident it will collect a good amount equal to that of today’s young heroes’ films.”
