There are certain filmmakers who are particular that they cast only Tamil speaking heroines, especially when it is a performing role. Kalanjium is one such director. For his forthcoming directorial venture Munthiri Kaadu, he brought on board Subhapriya who has trained herself in all aspects to become a heroine.

Says Subhapriya, “Even when I was a child, I used to imitate many artistes no sooner I watch a movie. Since my dad is a cinematographer, I was fond of posing for pictures right from school days. I dreamt of becoming an actress always. After completing my plus 2, I prepared well in bharatanatyam, filmy dance, singing, silambam and even had a stint in acting. When Kalanjium sir was on the lookout for a debutant, I auditioned for the lead role and got selected.”

On her experiences working in MK, she says, “The movie is about the predicaments faced by our cashew nut farmers. First quality cashews are grown more in Pudhukottai and are exported to foreign countries. The film has been shot in real locations and the terrains were rough. I hurt myself many times during shoot. All these vanished when I saw the final product. Kalanjium knows how to extract the best from each artiste. Seeman sir also plays a curial role and he took care of me like a sister. He was praising me whenever I scored in performance on the sets.”
