At a time when historical or mythological series airing on most Tamil satellite channels are dubbed from Hindi, a Tamil and Kannada bilingual historical serial named Chandrakumari is being made on the same grand scale as Hindi serials. And bringing the mega serial to the television screen is soap star Radhikaa Sarathkumar, who has scaled the heights as a TV actress.

Radhika will be essaying seven different characters in Chandrakumari, an epic story which will traverse historical and contemporary times. In the period part of the serial, which dates back to seven of her previous births, the actress comes as a valorous queen. Those who have seen the sneak peek of the soap rave about Radhikaa’s valiant looks amid opulent period sets.

Talking about her several avatars in Chandrakumari, Radhikaa, who also doubles up as the creative head of Radaan Media, says, “It’s a milestone in my career. I have not attempted a challenging character like Chandrakumari so far. I have toiled day and night for several days to realise my dream of making this work of art. Expectations surrounding the mega venture from the house of Radaan have been heavy.”

Actress Bhanu of Thamirabharani film fame plays Radhikaa’s daughter in the serial. Nirosha and Uma Riyaz Khan comprise the supporting cast. Huge sets have been erected in Mumbai and Chennai where the shooting has been going on without a break.  While veteran Suresh Krishna directs the monarchy segments, CJ Bhaskar wields the megaphone for the contemporary portions. Sirpi composes the music.

The mega soap is also being dubbed in Telugu and Malayalam. It is scheduled to be aired from October end when Radhikaa’s current soap Vani Rani, which has been running for over five years, runs to a close.
