Jigarthanda actor, Guru Somasundaram, received critical acclaim for his extraordinary performance in Raju Murugan’s political satire, Joker. The versatile actor will now be essaying a baddie for the first time in the Kreshna-Swathi Reddy starrer, Yakkai.

Elaborating on his role, Guru says, “I play a guy with dark shades, who has just returned from America. Playing this role was quite challenging as it is opposite to my own personality. It required a lot of energy.” He says he loved this role as villainous roles offer greater scope for acting.

“During dubbing, I was given training to talk in an American accent. I barely managed the fight sequences! Considering my experience, I still need to learn how to fight on camera,” he laughs.

The Aaranya Kaandam actor exclaims that he never expected such a humungous reception for Joker. “The film’s success was the outcome of a collective effort, and the team deserves all the recognition,” he opines.

Guru is currently also busy with Idhu Vedalam Sollum Kadhai with Ashwin Kakumanu.  “The film is a contemporary take on the Vikramaditya-Vedalam story. I play the Vedalam’s character and we are very particular about not portraying Vedalam as a ghost!” he concludes.
