No punch lines for Sethupathi in Karuppan

Paneerselvam’s (who returns after a gap) upcoming flick Karuppan with Vijay Sethupathi and Tanya is touted to be full-fledged rural entertainer. An excited Paneer talks to DC about his film, which is set with the jallikattu backdrop.

“Vijay Sethupathi sir essays a bull tamer and the way he has transformed into the character was amazing. I would narrate the scene to him, but his presentation would make all the difference. In terms of action, it’s a visual treat to his fans. Women will hail the film,” he starts his conversation heaping laurels on Sethupathi.  

Are there any punch lines in the film? “Right from the beginning, Sethupathi told me not to have any punch dialogues. His unique dialogue delivery will do the magic.”

He also reasons out why Makkal Selvan is an apt title for the actor — “He is a simple and wonderful human being. We shot in Dindigul, and Vijay would go to the villagers’ houses and dine with them. He is perfect for the sobriquet Makkal Selvan.”

On Tanya Ravichandran, Paneerselvam says, “No one else would have justified the role she plays in the film. She has given an intense performance.” Pasupathy who plays Tanya’s brother has an equally important role, he adds.

Talking about roping in Bobby Simhaa, he shares, “He portrays a villainous character and came on board only on Sethupathi’s request. The character is not the clichéd loud villain. He is subtle in his actions, but the repercussions are massive. He expresses his negative emotions through his eyes only.”
