Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, whose decision to grab good roles irrespective of whether it is as lead heroine or supporting character, seems to have paid off. After bagging several films including Vijay’s Thalapathy62, Neeya 2 and Kanni Rasi, the powerhouse performer has been roped in for the first time for a female centric script where she essays a reporter from Madurai.  Titled Velvet Nagaram, the action thriller is based on true-life incidents that took place in Kodaikanal and Chennai.

Talking to DC, director Manojkumar Natrajan says, “The story revolves around the heroine and a performance oriented character. Varalaxmi portrays the central character who comes to the city to investigate the atrocities meted out to adivasis belonging to Kodaikanal. The subsequent predicament she faces and how intelligently the truth is revealed forms the crux.” The story is set to happen within 48 hours, he adds.

Malavika Sundar, Ramesh Thilak, Arjay, and Prakash Raghavan play supporting roles. Produced by Arun Karthik, the film has Achu Rajamani as the music composer.
