Vijay doesn’t mix personal and professional lives, says dad

Veteran filmmaker, actor and Thalapathy Vijay’s dad, SA Chandrashekar, known for films on sensitive social based themes, has tried his hands in an adult content genre for his 70th directorial venture with a movie titled Capemaari (Scoundrel).  He is said to have stunned the censor board with Capemaari’s explicit sexual content and dialogues, which they have certified as strictly for Adults with an ‘A certificate. It appears he has opted to go the full Monty with Capemaari, which he announced as his last one behind the camera.

Speaking to DC, SAC denies that Capemaari is an adult movie and says it is meant for youth of today. In a chat, he clears any misgivings. “I don’t classify it as an adult content movie. It is a fun filled youthful entertainer. It drives home a point that ‘anything in excess is not good. And why a male and a female have different ethics.’

Capemaari deals with a contemporary subject set against an IT backdrop. It’s an intense romantic story. People have a wrong perception that it is a sin to talk about sex. As far as I am concerned it is a beautiful thing and I have explored it in an aesthetic manner in it. As a creator I should also try out various genres. The lead guy played by Jai is a carefree youth who would overdo everything from consuming liquor to flirting with girls etc.”

On opting for Jai, he said, “I felt he was apt for the role as an easygoing guy. As expected, he enjoyed every bit in doing the film. In fact, when I narrated the script to him he asked me if I had kept any hidden camera in his house as the lead protagonist’s traits and habits exactly matched him in real life. Also, being a fan of Thalapathy Vijay, he requested me to change his character name from Karthi (which I kept) to Vijay. However, the hero’s screen name in 60 of my films with Vijay and Vijayakanth were also Vijay (smiles).”

So, what did your son Vijay say about this venture, we ask. “Vijay never interferes in my work. He knows that personal and professional lives are two different things. And I would definitely screen the film to him before its release.”

He admits that fans of Vijay who call him ‘Appa’ are apprehensive and ask him why this title. “I understand their anxiousness and they are in a way justified. But, I want to stress that this is a film meant for youth like them (fans). The story needs to be told. So, when they watch the film, they will know why I titled the film as Capemaari.”

Vaibhavi Sandilya and Athulya Ravi play the lead girls and SAC says they both have given life to their characters namely Jenny and Varsha.

Though he announced that he will not wield the megaphone anymore, SAC is ready to continue donning grease paint. “I am willing to act and produce films. But, I will be choosy. My next acting venture is with Subbu, a former associate of national award winner Chezian, where I essay the village bigwig, around whom the story revolves.”
