Young director Buchi Babu, who tasted massive success with ‘Uppena’, wherein Tamil star Vijay Sethupathi played a role with negative shades and vowed the audiences, is again trying to rope in the multi-faceted actor for his upcoming big ticket film with Ram Charan as well. “Even during ‘Uppena’, Buchi Babu was determined to sign in Vijay Sethupathi to play the crucial role of Kirthi Shetty’s father in the film,” says a source and adds, “Initially, Vijay was reluctant to essay a negative role as he was doing hero-centric films in Tamil. Nonetheless, Buchi managed to convince him over multiple meetings and managed to bring him on board,” he adds.

“Besides pocketing a hefty sum, Sethupathi imposed certain conditions like “Uppena’ shouldn’t be dubbed and released in Tamil. Producers agreed to his conditions despite knowing that it could be unviable for them to recover their investments since it was a small film with newcomers.  With the film turning out to be a massive blockbuster, producer recovered their investments and Buchi Babu’s idea to cast Sethupathi paid rich dividends,” he points out.

Interestingly, Vijay Sethupathi started doing negative roles in Kollywood as well and played an antagonist to Rajnikanth (‘Petta’), Vijay (‘Master,) and Kamal Hassan (Vikram) to become the most sought after-actor for ruthless baddy roles.
