Of stars and soulmates

On Friendship Day we bring to you some ‘sacred’ and ‘karmic’ bonds between stars who defy all odds to remain connected.

We live in a age where the definition of friendship assumes different meanings. Especially with jet-setting careers and increased competition within the film industry that puts its subjects, the stars under the troll scanner and paparazzi pressures to pose perfectly, it’s imperative to have solid understanding and communication.

Shruti Haasan who is managing an international career in music and a busy film schedule in Mumbai makes it a point to stay connected with her besties. Her school time friend Natasha Bhalla and she are spotted spending quality time in London and whilst in Mumbai Shruti makes it a point to make time for her cine-town bestie Tammannah. Sanchita Shetty who has seen this bond up close says, “Stars can be friends and should be friends. Being there for each other is essential in an industry that is judged very quickly. My friends within the industry help me to cope with controversy, scandal and guide me.”Tammannah was also spotted with her gang of celebrity friends in Coimbatore during the Shivaratri celebrations.

While not shooting or campaigning for her political party Khushboo makes time for her friends in the industry. She is known to be very close to stylist Anu Parthasarathy, dance choreographer Brinda, Subbu and producer Sujataa Vijaykumar. Speaking of friendship, Khushboo, says, “We act as sounding boards for each other. Not necessary that every friendship has to be about advising and guiding. We all need someone to listen too. My friends always rally around me whether I’m busy or not. All our birthdays and family functions are planned keeping in mind each other’s schedules. My daughters have also been inducted into the gang and as a large gang of girls we take off on holidays. We have a karmic connection.”

The unbreakable bond between screen-goddess Ramya Krishnan and Roja fame Madhoo Shah has lasted many decades in the industry.     

The two take off on holidays with their children to London and while in Chennai Madhoo makes it a point to hang out with Ramya. Ramya, says,”Friendship to me is sacred. There is no room for insecurities or one upmanship in friendship. Madhoo has been a solid anchor and a hugely motivating force in my life. Women must value eachother enough to make it a symbiotic friendship rather than letting it be one-sided. I feel complete with Madhoo. She is my soulmate.”

Many in the city know of Trisha's gang of friends, especially her relationship with designer Sidney Sladen is what even the masses and classes are aware of as she has unswervingly stood by him and their great bond is up for display across platforms. Speaking fondly of his bond with Trisha, Sidney, says, “Trisha and I go back a long way. We know each other for who we truly are and have always got each other's backs. Never has anyone else been able to interfere in what we share. As an individual she is very centred and caring. That makes it easy for everyone to like her. To me she has on many occasions unflinchingly stood by me”
