GM Sundar, who was introduced by the late legendary filmmaker K Balachander, in Kamal-starrer Punnagai Mannan, has acted in more than 50 flicks. His recent stint as a panchayat head in Udhayanidhi’s Podhuvaga Emmanasu Thangam was well-received — and the actor, who won the national award for his short film Urumaattram on environmental issues, is on a roll.

He says, “A lot of people appreciated my comic-villain role in Podhuvaga…..I am thankful to Thalapathy  Prabhu for giving me such a role. He was impressed with my act in Kadhalum Kadandhu  Pogum and offered me this character.”

The actor, who graduated from the Film Institute adds, “After Punnagai Mannan, I gained the friendship of Kamal sir, who gave me important roles in his production ventures — Kadamai Kanniyam Kattupadu and Sathya. Thanks to sir, I got intense roles in films such as Atharmam, Nanbargal and Kizhakkum Merkkum, etc. I also played the protagonist in director Lenin’s Oorukku Nooru Paer that was based on top novelist Jayakanthan’s novel. It won the national award for the best film!”

Sundar is a busy man these days with four films in his kitty. “I am back to acting and there won’t be any break in my career from now.”
