Shanmuga Pandian, younger son of actor-politician Vijayakanth, is all set with his third movie Madura Veeran,  a rural entertainer set against a backdrop of Jallikattu.

The young actor speaks to us about the film and experiences playing a rural youth. On choosing the subject he says, “Obviously the 'Jallikattu' theme was the main reason. You would have witnessed Tamil movies where Jallikattu appears in a segment or just as a passing reference. But, Madura Veeran is all about Jallikattu right from the word go. At the same time, the director has infused commercial elements to make it entertaining fare.”

So, how was it working as a rural youth after being brought up in city culture? “Adapting to village lifestyle for this film wasn't a big challenge. I have travelled a lot to villages right from my childhood along with my parents and by myself. I am familiar with the Madurai Tamil dialect as I used to speak to my family from childhood in this slang. But since I play a guy returning from abroad, I was asked to speak in normal Tamil slang.”

On his cinematographer turned filmmaker, he says, “P.G. Muthaiah sir has exactly translated the script he narrated to my father into beautiful visual output now. And it is the content which matters and MV has a solid story.”
