HBO has officially announced that the network picked up House of the Dragon, a different GoT prequel series, chronicling the rise of House Targaryen, which boasts Daenerys and also Jon Snow as members.

Now that the anticipated prequel to Game of Thrones is no longer happening, HBO has officially announced that the network picked up House of the Dragon, a different GoT prequel series, chronicling the rise of House Targaryen, which boasts Daenerys and also Jon Snow as members.

As per E! Online, the show — of which 10 episodes have already been ordered — is set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones, and is based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire and Blood books. Meanwhile, the other prequel that’s apparently not going forward would have been set thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones and would have documented “the descent from the golden Age of Heroes into the world’s darkest hour.”

Although it’s still not known when House of the Dragon will start airing, HBO programming president Case Bloys made the big announcement on Tuesday, saying,  “The GoT universe is so rich with stories. We look forward to exploring the origins of House Targaryen and the earlier days of Westeros along with Miguel, Ryan, and George.”
