Pop legend Prince may have only just passed away, but his mysterious illness last week has already prompted reports that the singer’s death may have been an accidental drug overdose.

According to TMZ.com, when Prince was rushed to the hospital after making an emergency landing at Illinois post a show when he was said to be battling influenza last week, he was given a “save shot” — something usually given to counter the effects of painkillers.

Sources told the website that Prince’s group had asked for a private room since he needed to be under observation for 24 hours. But since the hospital couldn’t provide them with one, Prince was discharged within three hours even though he “was not doing well”. Authorities in Prince’s hometown Minnesota have reportedly been in touch with the hospital for the singer’s records, and are still investigating the death.

Remembering the pop legend

‘What a magnificent life’
Kesha paid tribute to the legend on Instagram, by posting a photo of Prince and captioning it, “What a magnificent life. Thoughts and prayers to his family and fans around the world. Sometimes words just aren't enough.”

According to Dailymail.co.uk, Kesha has also narrated a story about Prince for years about how she broke into his house to give him a demo CD of her music when she was not yet discovered. “He just kind of looked at me funny. He gave me a look like, ‘Who the hell are you?’ and I waved around my CD. I put it on the table, and then I ran away,” Kesha had most recently said on The Tonight Show.

‘An incredible person’
Mariah Carey, who was performing in Paris on Thursday, gave an emotional speech on stage about losing her friend: “I didn’t know if I was able to come out here and put on a show and be festive but I said I’m in Paris and that’s what Prince would want me to do. To get through it rather than just make everything bleak we need to take this and honour this. He was a friend to me too and he talked me through sometimes I really really needed somebody.”

‘Not the last greatest’
Justin Bieber still managed to make himself the bad guy after questioning Prince's legacy. Guitarist Andrew Watt had posted an eulogy for his idol on Instagram, in which he hailed Prince as “the last of the greatest living performers”, to which Justin replied in a now-deleted comment, “Well not the greatest living performer”. The comment drew criticism from other users such as, “B**** you’re barely mediocre, sit your entire scrawny delinquent a** down.”
