The 2014 film Gone Girl was an immediate hit and Reese Witherspoon, who produced the film got many accolades for it. But now, in a turn of events, Reese has received a lawsuit for the same film. A lady named Leslie Weller claims that in 2005, she wrote a screenplay called Out of the Blue. She then sent it to a script consultant, which she claims set the wheels in motion for her script to get stolen. She also says that the book Gone Girl, which was released in 2012 was a rip off of her script.

She says that there are many similarities, like they both focus on a married couple’s relationship where the husband and wife are drifting apart. They both contain a key twist where the wife is not the nice, normal, and somewhat naive housewife and is in fact a psychopath who sets up her husband. Even the structure, Weller says, is the same, drawing a few more parallels. Weller is also suing the book’s author, Gillian Flynn, along with the movie’s director, David Fincher.
