Historic: Varanasi Teaser to Be Screened at Paris’ Le Grand Rex

Varanasi will become the first Indian film to screen its promotional content at the iconic Le Grand Rex theatre in Paris.

Varanasi, directed by ace filmmaker S. S. Rajamouli, is being mounted on a sensational budget reportedly exceeding Rs 1,300 crore. The ambitious, globetrotting project stars Tollywood superstar Mahesh Babu in the lead, with Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra playing a pivotal role.

In the latest development, the film’s announcement teaser— which sent fans into a frenzy upon release — is now set to create history. Varanasi will become the first Indian film to screen its promotional content at the iconic Le Grand Rex theatre in Paris. The special screening is scheduled to take place at 9 PM on January 5, 2026.

The news was confirmed by Aanna Films, a French distributor of Indian cinema, and the event is expected to draw significant attention, with the teaser being showcased on the grand screen in a rich, immersive format.

Rajamouli appears determined to keep Varanasi firmly in the global spotlight. The film’s shoot is expected to continue for another eight months, with the makers eyeing a theatrical release in March 2027.

Mollywood star Prithviraj Sukumaran essays the antagonist in the film. Varanasi is produced by K. L. Narayana under the Sri Durga Arts banner, in association with S. S. Karthikeya of Showing Business. The music is composed by Oscar-winning composer M. M. Keeravani, while the story and screenplay are penned by Vijayendra Prasad.
