The source also points out that Prabhas has already delivered a worldwide blockbuster with Kalki 2898 AD and is now aiming to entertain audiences with another wholesome entertainer.
Dismissing rumours that the much-hyped Prabhas starrer The Raja Saab was sold for a lesser price, a source claims that the film has been locked for a whopping OTT deal. “The film would fetch around Rs 160 crore, including Hindi and Telugu digital rights, which is the highest-ever price for a Telugu film,” says the source. He adds that the horror-comedy has generated considerable buzz, thanks to its promotional content.
“Prabhas films are no longer region-specific. Even top OTT platforms don’t mind paying premium prices because he attracts viewers across the globe,” the source explains. According to him, OTT deals today largely depend on superstar value, and there has been no reduction in their market. “While digital deals have become difficult for lesser-known actors, the top four or five Telugu stars are way ahead of the rest.”
The source also points out that Prabhas has already delivered a worldwide blockbuster with Kalki 2898 AD and is now aiming to entertain audiences with another wholesome entertainer. “In The Raja Saab, he will be seen in varied shades, ranging from a lighter vein to a fiery avatar,” he says.
Meanwhile, the Telugu theatrical rights are reportedly pegged at Rs 200 crore, as producer TG Vishwa Prasad has opened negotiations with distributors in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. “Prabhas films like Salaar and Kalki 2898 AD fetched between Rs 140 crore and Rs 160 crore in the Telugu states. People Media Factory is keen to break old records and set a new benchmark that reflects Prabhas’ growing stature,” the source adds.
Made on a massive budget of around Rs 400 crore, the film is expected to close major deals and move towards table profits. The overseas business is also looking strong, with markets such as Australia and Japan joining traditional territories like the US, Europe and other Asian countries, all vying for the rights ahead of the film’s release on January 9.
