According to sources, the Progressive Panel registered a dominant victory, almost sweeping the polls, while the Mana Panel managed to secure seven to eight wins
Leading producer and exhibitor D. Suresh Babu has been unanimously elected as the President of the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce (TFCC) in the elections held today. Polling took place from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and the results were announced after the count, followed by a meeting of the newly elected executive committee.
Producer Naga Vamsi has been elected as Vice-President, while Ashok Kumar is the new General Secretary. Mohan Vadlapatla and Vijayender Reddy have been elected as Joint Secretaries, and Muthyala Ram Das will serve as the Treasurer.
According to sources, the Progressive Panel registered a dominant victory, almost sweeping the polls, while the Mana Panel managed to secure seven to eight wins.
The newly elected 44 executive committee members include Dil Raju, C. Kalyan, Prasanna Kumar, Damodar Prasad, Bharat Bhushan, among others. Speaking on the occasion, C. Kalyan, who was elected as an executive committee member, said that the elections were held in a free and fair manner. He added that elections were necessary and that more members participated and cast their votes this time.
More than 900 members out of a total 3,100 voted in the elections, representing the four sectors of the Chamber — Producers, Distributors, Exhibitors, and Studios. The elections were held to choose the President, General Secretary, and 44 executive committee members. This year, the President’s post was reserved for the Exhibitors’ sector, following which Suresh Babu was elected after deliberations.
"Members contested in a very positive atmosphere," said Vijayender Reddy, who was elected as Joint Secretary. He said he had earlier served as General Secretary as well and added that the new body would take all sectors forward without discrimination. "Small producers are the backbone of the industry and would receive full support," he said.
Reddy also stated that exhibitors would push for measures to allow the expansion of single screens into commercial spaces and seek a reduction in electricity tariffs in theatres. He added that Suresh Babu is a veteran in industry-related matters and would do his best to resolve them.
Earlier, producer Dil Raju and distributor Bharat Bushan served as presidents.
