Despite the extended holiday weekend, superstar Rajinikanth’s Coolie witnessed a steep decline in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. According to exhibitors, the film collected around Rs 9 crore on day three, marking a sharp drop from its earlier figures.
“The film opened with Rs 17 crore net on day one, followed by Rs 12 crore on day two, but day three saw collections slipping further to Rs 9 crore,” an exhibitor noted, calling it an alarming trend for a big-ticket entertainer released across more than 500 theatres in the Telugu states.
After record openings, the film’s momentum has slowed due to mixed audience response and heavy social media criticism. “Despite the hype, footfalls are clearly dipping in several centres,” trade sources pointed out.
The Telugu dubbing rights of Coolie were sold for Rs 43 crore plus 18% GST, pushing the break-even target close to Rs 48–50 crore. “The film still needs a strong pickup to ensure recovery for Telugu distributors,” a source added.
