Coolie Draws ₹15 Cr Nett. On Day One in Telugu States
Rajinikanth’s Coolie has opened to sensational numbers on day one across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
Riding on massive hype, superstar Rajinikanth’s Coolie has opened to sensational numbers on day one across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
“It raked in ₹15 crore net in the Telugu states out of ₹25+ crore gross collections, definitely setting an opening record,” says a leading distributor. He adds, “The name ‘Rajinikanth’ still works like magic for Telugu audiences, and Nagarjuna’s presence in the film further boosted the craze.”
Despite mixed reviews from several centres, the distributor says the film needs to hold strong in the coming days. “On day one, ticket demand was intense, with theatres packed across the Telugu states. With Friday being Independence Day, the action entertainer has an added advantage,” he notes.
Rajinikanth has once again set the cash registers ringing in the Telugu market, proving he hasn’t lost his crowd-pulling power even after 50 years in the industry.
However, the distributor feels director Lokesh Kanagaraj could have opted for a stronger storyline. “Working around smugglers of gold watches and mafia misdeeds at ports has been done in many films before,” he concludes.
