Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey Marks Historic India Premiere in Mumbai
Matt Damon, Tom Holland join Nolan at first-ever India premiere; IMAX-shot epic to release on July 17
Mumbai: In a landmark cinematic moment, Academy Award-winning filmmaker Christopher Nolan made his first-ever film premiere appearance in India as The Odyssey was showcased in Mumbai as part of its global promotional tour.
Nolan arrived in the city on July 10 along with film stars Matt Damon and Tom Holland, as well as Academy Award-winning producer Emma Thomas. The event highlighted India’s growing prominence as a key global theatrical market.
The celebrations began with an exclusive fan screening at PVR ICON IMAX, Phoenix Palladium, where Nolan and the cast surprised audiences with an unannounced appearance—marking the only such fan interaction globally during the film’s tour.
Earlier, the team addressed the media, discussing the film’s ambitious scale, groundbreaking use of IMAX film cameras, and their experience bringing the project to Indian audiences.
The visit will conclude with a star-studded red-carpet premiere attended by members of the Indian film fraternity, making it one of the biggest Hollywood events hosted in the country.
The Odyssey, based on Homer’s epic, features an ensemble cast including Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Zendaya and Charlize Theron.
Shot entirely using IMAX film cameras, the movie is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on July 17 by Universal Pictures.
Calling the India premiere a milestone, Universal Pictures India VP and Managing Director Denzil Dias said Nolan’s films share a deep connection with Indian audiences, and bringing The Odyssey to Mumbai reflects the studio’s commitment to delivering world-class theatrical experiences.
