Bramhanda Movie Review: A Rural Story with a Touch of Mystery
In the tradition of authentic Telangana-based rural stories, Brahmanda is a serious attempt.
Brahmanda, produced by Dasari Suresh, with music by Varikuppala Yadagiri, was released in theatres today. Let's find out what the movie is all about.
Story:
In a small village where the Mallanna Jathara is celebrated with fervour, a series of mysterious murders happen every midnight, leaving the village terrified. Since they happen over a specific six-month period, the police feel challenged. In order to prevent people from stepping out of their homes after sunset, they attempt to impose a temporary ban on the sacred Jathara. A series of incidents unfold in the wake of this riddle-like case.
Analysis:
These days, films themed on some or the other religious backdrop are being respected. The trend began with the roaring success of Kantara. Films like Odela 2, Bhairavam, among others, have tried to follow the trend.
Brahmanda, the film under review, is based on the story of rural Oggu artists, respected for their earnestness and commitment to their tradition. The murder mystery is both moody and played for entertainment at times.
The deployment of elements like investigation and religious imagery is not forced. The film doesn't grow intense, nor does it hold a commentary on traditions (unlike the recent Paradha).
The late director Rambabu Dasari stays true to the genre. Since the film had to rely on technical output to project its strengths better, Kasula Karthik's cinematography and MR Varma's editing play a part.
Among the film's merits are the female performances, backed by strong characterizations. The climax is a stand-out.
Performances:
Aamani can be said to have played a good role recently. Balagam Jayaram did justice to his character. Komarakka's character is the highlight of the movie; she played a memorable role. The characters of Bunny Raaju and Kanika Vadhwa are impressive. As always, Chatrapati Shekhar impressed with his natural acting. The acting of actor Amit is also impressive. The remaining actors, including Dil Ramesh, Prasannakumar, and Devi Sri Kartanandam, can be said to have brought life to their respective roles.
Verdict:In the tradition of authentic Telangana-based rural stories, Brahmanda is a serious attempt.
