After racing into audiences’ hearts with F1, Brad Pitt is winning them over once again, this time with a four-legged companion! His latest survival adventure, Paramount Pictures’ Heart of the Beast, has opened to an enthusiastic reception, earning praise from critics and audiences alike for its gripping storytelling and deeply emotional portrayal of the bond between a man and his dog. The film currently holds an 88 per cent critics’ score and an impressive 94 per cent verified audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
While Pitt may have battled the unforgiving Alaskan wilderness on screen, keeping his four-legged co-star focused came with its own amusing challenges! The Hollywood superstar recently revealed how he relied on pockets full of boiled chicken to keep Odin, primarily played by Uber, happy and engaged during filming.
Speaking about working with military K-9 specialist Steve Stoops, Pitt shared how the team adopted an approach inspired by the way military dogs are cared for, ensuring that every day was filled with affection, fun, and adventure.
“They make sure that they're having fun, that they're having, that they're cared for, that they're loved, that there's something adventurous for them in that day. They treat them that way, and it was the same for us with Odin, played by Uber.”
However, filming in New Zealand presented its own challenges. With plenty of interesting smells and distractions around, Pitt had to find a way to keep Uber focused, even during the most emotionally intense scenes.
“And I just kept a lot of boiled chicken in my pocket, and real good in the middle of a scene, like being emotional and then having to stop and, like, bring us some boiled chicken, and we'd get right back into the scene, right here with me.”
While the trick helped keep his canine companion engaged, it had one rather hilarious consequence for Pitt, who joked, “But yeah, I really can't eat chicken since I got sick.”
