Producer Niharika Konidela has reasons to cheer as her latest production Raakaasa, featuring young actor Sangeeth Sobhan, is putting up a steady performance at the box office. The horror-comedy has reportedly collected ₹6.48 crore share in the Telugu states within the first six days of its release.

According to trade sources, the film raked in ₹3.22 crore from the Nizam region and ₹3.26 crore from Andhra Pradesh, and continues to hold in select centres. “The horror-comedy genre seems to have struck a chord with audiences in a few pockets,” says a distributor. Overseas, the film has performed reasonably well, collecting ₹1.92 crore in the US, while the rest of India contributed a modest ₹66 lakh.

In contrast, Biker, starring Sharwanand and Dr. Rajasekhar, has lagged slightly behind in terms of collections. The film has managed ₹6.33 crore share in the Telugu states so far, with ₹3.70 crore from Nizam and ₹2.63 crore from Andhra Pradesh.

However, its performance in overseas markets has been underwhelming, with collections of just ₹1.02 crore, while the rest of India added around ₹93 lakh.

Despite revolving around a relatively fresh theme of motocross and dirt-track racing, the much-hyped adventure drama failed to ignite the box office. “It had a novel premise and explored the father-son relationship effectively, but somehow it didn’t translate into a winning formula at the box office,” the distributor concludes.
