Los Angeles has officially declared 6 January 2027 as Diljit Dosanjh Day. The Los Angeles City Council made the announcement while Dosanjh was in the US for his Dil-Luminati Tour. Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez presented him with the resolution, recognising his contributions to Punjabi music and his role in raising South Asian visibility in mainstream American culture.

In a video of the moment, Dosanjh said he was "speechless," then broke into a line from his 2009 song "Los Angeles."

Dosanjh began his career as a devotional singer at kirtans and gurdwaras. His debut album, Smile, released in 2005, launched him to local fame in Punjab. He has since become a global name. In 2023, he became the first Punjabi artist to perform at Coachella. His Dil-Luminati tour went on to break ticket sales records for an Indian artist worldwide.

The Punjabi community has welcomed the declaration warmly. For many fans, it marks a defining moment in Dosanjh's rise from regional artist to international icon. His most recent film is Imtiaz Ali's Main Vaapas Aaunga, a romantic drama that released on June 12.
