Gone are the bad hair days during the monsoons, thanks to the pop of colour on your mane.  From subtle wine highlights to bold and fiery red streaks, even B-town actresses such as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu and Adah Sharma are painting the town red!

Aishwarya, in her recent film Fanney Khan was seen showing off her new hair colour — a red wine shade. Even though the film tanked at the box office, Aishwarya’s look was much appreciated. That’s not all, actress Adah Sharma has gone for a flame red colour on the lower portion of her hair to jazz up her black hair, getting a big thumbs up from fashion bloggers and fans alike.

According to fashion blogger Satpreet, the red hues brighten up the Indian skin tone like nothing else. “Red is the best go-to colour. It sets beautifully with black hair and with so many options, from ginger to deep mahogany, pick a shade of red that defines your personality; be it bold or classy. Women, no matter what age group, are so much more eager to experiment these days, and with salons offering the best of techniques and post-care options, it has become easier to maintain one’s tresses,” says Satpreet, adding, “Red, for me is definitely about being bold and passionate, and having great hair perks up your confidence to another level. The magic is that you can enjoy every bit of it - from the freshly coloured shade, to the last bit before you need a retouch.”

Agreeing with her is celebrity makeup artist and hair stylist, Ayesha AK, who says, “Red need not be a very bold and bright colour for people who are just experimenting. There are a range of red shades, starting from burgundy to bright red. Someone who is just starting off with the trend and wants to play it safe can go for cool- toned reds. Even a purplish undertone may fare well with Indian skin tones. But since the Indian skin tone is very varied, it is always good to talk to your stylist first.”

According to fashion blogger Meenakshi Pamnani, the colour helps one to add a spark to the outfit and personality as well. “Red colour is an amazing trend as it adds a pop of colour to your mane. People are experimenting with a lot of colours these days and have the capability to carry it off.

“Shades of wine and red are safer to carry than other in-vogue pop colours like blue and purple. On a personal front, wine is my favourite and I am also planning to join the red brigade soon,” says Meenakshi.

But like any other fashion trend, this one comes with a statutory warning too. “The tricky part about red hair is the make-up and the clothing. Red hair works well with people who wear neutral shades instead of bright colours. Even your make-up needs to be subtle and neutral for the hair colour to stand out,” explains Ayesha AK.
