Dancer Nora Fatehi, who hails from Canada, may be an outsider, but she is steadily trying to make her mark in showbiz. While the actress’ incredible dance numbers are making the world get on their feet, she reveals that she is not a trained dancer.

“Let me be honest: I am not a trained dancer, I am just someone who can dance. I did not get the chance to take the training. So when I look at a lot of dance in India, there are some remarkably talented dancers that need to be celebrated. I am in awe of the kind of talent that there is in this county. What I love about Bollywood the most is that the backbone of Bollywood is song and dance. That’s what makes this industry special,” the RAW actress reveals.

Nora, who was recently seen in a music video with Vicky Kaushal, is trying to redefine item numbers in Bollywood. “The dance numbers I have done have never been vulgar, and are all performance-oriented numbers. I just need to dance. I make sure my clothing is not too revealing; I am in touch with the costume designers to make sure the look is classy. At the end of the day, what makes my songs different from everybody else’s is that they are literally performance-driven songs,” she reveals.

As for her killer belly dancing skills, she says, “Belly dance for us is like what Bollywood dance is for you. In Arabic culture, we all know the basics of belly dance, and I really enjoyed belly dancing. I come from a conservative Arab family, so when I was younger, I used to teach myself an advanced form of this dance. So that was my hunger to learn more. I am not a trained dancer, but that’s never stopped me from challenging myself,” she adds.

Actresses who take up dance numbers are easily typecast, but Nora opines that things have been a little different for her. “It has not happened to me. I had a role in Batla House. If that was meant to happen, then it would have happened after Dilbar, but it did not because I signed Street Dancer as one of the leads. Bagging such a crucial film is huge for me, especially as an outsider. If I can act and if I can speak the language, that is the key for me to go forward in my career. Everything else is baseless,” the 27-year-old explains.

Nora will now be seen in Street Dance 3D along with Shraddha Kapoor and Varun Dhawan. Meanwhile, Nora is also enjoying the success of her latest project, the music video for Arijit Singh’s single Pachtaoge.
