When Sanjay Mishra acted in the Ketan Mehta directed film Oh Darling! Yeh Hai India along with Shah Rukh Khan in 1995, little did he know that their paths will cross once again after two and a half decades.

Mishra on March 6 will release his indie film Kaamyaab, directed by Hardik Patel and produced by Manish Mundhra of Masaan, Aankhon Dekhi and Newton fame along with Gaurav Verma, COO of Shah Rukh Khan’s company Red Chillies. Shah Rukh Khan is backing this film as an attempt to promote good cinema as a producer. Red Chillies was also the producer of Badla and is producing Bob Biswas starring Abhishek Bachchan after this one.

One look at the trailer and the man who shot into prominence in 1999 as Apple Singh during the World Cup at Lords, rubbing shoulders with Geoff Boycott, reminds you of the character of junior artiste Om Prakash Makhija. You know instantly where SRK would have struck a chord. Sanjay plays a character actor who has done 499 films and wants his swan song before hanging up his gloves.

“It is the story of a character actor. One part of the story was told in Om Shanti Om; if you look at the first Om, it is his story. But his complete story is told in Kaamyaab but through the character of Sudheer played by Sanjay Mishra. The film is only about his story what Om was before and after,” says Gaurav Verma of Red Chillies.
