Neeta Lulla has styled actors and costumes for more than 300 movies, yet none of those was like Mohenjo Daro because she had no concrete reference to depend on.

“Creating designs for the era which is not much known to mankind was indeed a difficult task,” she begins. But thanks to Ashutosh Gowariker, who did so much research on the period and came up with a fabulous set with all grandeur, making Neeta’s job easier.

“Ashutosh had done ample research. With the technicalities and restrictions of sowing and structuring, my work became all the more easy. The simplicity of the era and the beautiful format helped me choose beautiful fabrics,” she says.

Having styled Hrithik Roshan earlier for Jodhaa Akbar, Neeta relives the experience. “Even if it is Akbar or Sarman, it is Hrithik for you. Clothes for Sarman have to suit Hrithik. Keeping in mind the organic play of fabrics available during that era, I had to choose cotton and use the indigo dye. I put together the accessories and colours available to craft the costumes. I handcrafted the headgears and other stuff used in such a civilisation.”

All praises for the newbie Pooja Hegde, Neeta comments, “Designing for Pooja was a fabulous experience. She is talented, focused and not flustered at all; it’s like a dream to work with her. It was a nice experience.”
