I was intimidated working with Kamal sir, says 'Vishwaroopam' star Pooja Kumar

Mumbai: In an exclusive chat with Lipika Varma, actor Pooja Kumar talks about her initial days when she was selected by ABCL through Amitabh Bachchan Pooja got her International World pageant show. Working with her favorite heroes in Bollywood and Tollywood, working with Kamal Hasaan and lastly intentions of joining Indian politics.

Pooja Kumar had started her global career as an American actress. She became one of the chosen one from the ABCL banner then, which did not take off. She tells, “Yes! I have had a wonderful experience with the ABCL: Amitabh Bachchan production. Then I had not done anything at all. I was just 17 years old. I had travelled all the way from US to be able to give audition for ABCL: Amitabh Bachchan sir chose me out of a huge number of contestants - 60,000 contestants’ who were fighting for that recognition. It was a great concept. I got trained in dancing and Hindi and other spheres of film making. I got the opportunity to be groomed.”  

Through Amitabh sir I got the opportunity to host International Miss World Pagent pre show which was to be done without a tele-promter. It was a good 45 minutes show. I even asked him if I could manage to host this show, he simply said yes you will be able to do it “This show was to be broadcast all over the globe approximately 50 Countries at least. This was my first ever professional assignment that I did.”

Coming to being chosen for Vishvaroopam 1 as well 2 and working with Kamal Haasan she says, “In the first Vishvaroopam mine was a pivotal role which thus continues in the Vishvaroopam 2 as well. Working with Kamal sir I was indeed intimidated. I get to do action is the film. I feel I will be the first female actor who has tried her hand at Scuba diving and some great action scenes in the film as well. Performing action scenes was indeed tough but he made it easy for me.”

One Hindi film old Pooja is open to working more in Bollywood filmdom, “I want do more films. Please tell all the directors….I am dying to work with all of them.”

Pooja would love to be pitied with two heroes no prizes for guessing hear from the horse’s mouth, “It would be amazing to work opposite Shri Amitabn Bachchan Sir and from the Telugu industry I would love to be pitied opposite Naragrjuna. However, I love all the heroes.”

Not many know Pooja has completed her majors in Political Science and Finances. Since she knows Kamal Sir she can get into Politics through him, “Oh! Yes in Washington I did work as an intern in Politics. Since, you just reminded me of Kamal sir, who has also joined Politics. I never thought about it. Yes, I may try to join Indian Politics so I can do something for India and Indians as well. There is a dire need of good politically inclined people who can bring about the necessary changes required for the Country. I would love to join Politics. Undenaibly, before joining Politics here in India, I will have to do a little more of studies. As, I am not aware about the Politics here. Learning my lessons here in Politics I would not mind trying my hand in Politics.”

Kamal Haasan starrer Vishwaroopma 2 is all set to release on 10th of August. A sequel to Vishwaroopam, a political spy thriller film will release in Hindi ,Tamil and Telugu.
