While Salman Khan has enough reason to scoff at critics who were quick to write off Race 3, he is still far from pleased with the box-office collections of his latest Id offering. Immediately after the festive season, the film’s performance seems to have taken a nosedive.

A top official from a leading multiplex chain who wishes to remain anonymous, says that poor reviews have affected footfalls. “Without a doubt, Race 3 is Salman Bhai’s poorest-performing Id film. Even staunch fans have hated it. The drop in collections post-Id has been steep, and we expect them to plummet further,” he says.

Trade pundit Amod Mehra says that he’s not surprised by the dip in sales. “Since the film lacks substance, the collections are bound to drop. Had the film not been released over the Id weekend, it would not have collected more than Rs 125 crore.”

According to reliable sources, a major fallout of Race 3’s underperformance is that Remo D’Souza, the director of the film, may not be asked to direct Race 4.
“In any case, Remo is busy working on his dance film with Varun Dhawan and Katrina Kaif. He won’t be able to devote time to Race 4 next year” the source adds.

The producers may decide to go back to Abbas-Mustan, the duo who directed the first two films in the franchise.
