I did Neerja because I believed in the character. Now, when my efforts are being acknowledged I'm relieved, says Sonam

Sonam Kapoor has been known so far more for her fashion choices than her histrionics on screen. But her latest release, Neerja, has changed all that, with many calling it a career defining performance.

Among those from the industry who have praised Sonam’s performance is the versatile Tabu, who we hear, watched the film with Farah Khan. Both the ladies attest to weeping uncontrollably during Neerja.

And the actress at the centre of all the rave reviews — Sonam — admits that it’s been an overwhelming experience. “Of course I worked very hard to bring Neerja to life. But I wasn’t expecting this kind of reaction from people. I’ve never experienced this before,” she says.

Sonam told us that she hadn’t even begun to read all the reviews for Neerja yet. Nor was she looking ahead to bagging awards for her performance. “I didn’t do Neerja for awards. I did it because I believed in the character. Now, when my efforts are being acknowledged I am relieved and happy,” she says.

Sonam also added that she is in no hurry to cash in on the Neerja wave. “I haven’t signed any new film,” she says. “I am not signing anything until I’m absolutely sure.”
