If reports are to be believed — and they are pretty hard to believe — Shahid Kapoor will be paid Rs 35 crores for his next film, a remake of the Telugu hit Jersey.

However, sources in the know completely debunk the figure, calling it not only overblown but also outrageous. “If you’ve seen the original film it is an emotional father-son story about a failed cricketer and bonding with his wife and child. The budget of the original Telugu film was around Rs 18 crores inclusive of the hero Nani’s salary.

Where would they pay the hero Rs 35 crores in the remake? This hype is being created by the PR machinery.”

Loud whispers of Shahid hiking his remuneration after the blockbuster success of his last release Kabir Singh have been doing the rounds in the film industry. And while the actor has indeed raised his price, the amount being tossed around in irresponsible sections of the media is nowhere near what he will actually get for Jersey.
