Was Amitabh Bachchan approached for Gulab Jamun?

A while ago, it was rumoured that Ronnie Screwvala Production had taken over Gulab Jamun. Ever since Phantom Films shut down after #MeToo took centre-stage, the Anurag Kashyap backed, Sarvesh Mewara directed film was delayed. As the Bachchans loved the script, it was reported that the film would have a new producer.
Now, another story doing the rounds is that another Bachchan – Amitabh - is to act in the film. “He had also heard the script and wanted a few changes for his character. Even after these were made, he didn’t seem too keen, since he wanted the film that he would do with son and daughter-in-law, to be the right one. There was some talk that Jaya would also be a part of the script, but that turned out to be another rumour,” says a source.
With Mani Rathnam signing on the Bachchan Bahu in his next film, we wonder if Gulab Jamun will go beyond the recipe stage. That is unless RSVP decides to finally get-on with the project with a new director.
