Here\'s why Riteish Deshmukh thinks calling Marjaavaan a \'masala\' film would be wrong

Directed by Milap Milan Zaveri, \'Marjaavaan\' will have the face-off between Sidharth and Riteish after their 2014 outing \'Ek Villain\'.

Riteish Deshmukh will be seen playing the cunning villain named Vishu in Milap Milan Zaveri's 'Marjaavaan'.

Mumbai: Bollywood's funny man Riteish Deshmukh had successfully managed to break his goody image with 'Ek Villain' back in 2014, where he played the antagonist. Now the actor has grabbed eyeballs with his villainous avatar in 'Marjaavaan' where he plays an antagonist once again - albeit as a dwarf.

In 'Marjaavaan', it will be interesting to watch Sidharth Malhotra and Riteish Deshmukh being pitted against each other again after 'Ek Villain'. Ritiesh will be seen as a vertically-challenged Vishnu who looks quite menacing with his kohl-lined eyes and a trishul-shaped tikka on his forehead.

In Marjaavaan's trailer, Sidharth's character Raghu is seen breaking bones, on the other hand Riteish looks unnerving as cold-blooded villain. Talking about their equation as hero-villain in the film, Riteish told Deccan Chronicle in an interview, "When two people have to physically clash, and if you hit even the cruelest guy who is just 3 feet...it would look unfair. Where's the heroism there? So, these two don't indulge into physical fight in the film. Most of the action comes from their minds."

The trailer of the film makes an impression that it would that typical masala film where hero and villain fight for a girl, however, Riteish disagrees. He explained, "This film is an intensely emotional, action drama. It is not a masala film. If you said massy film, I would agree. Sidharth's character is out and out massy. He is playing that quintessential massy hero in this larger the life film. This film is not about song and dance, there are very deep and intense emotions in the story. It is not a 'masaledaar' entertaining, it is dramatically entertaining, which is the main difference."

Riteish thought it was more challenging to shoot as Marjaavaan's antagonist because of his unusual get-up. He shared, "I had to shoot for the scenes on my knees. It was a very excruciating process. I was shooting every shot from five different angles, because there was lot of VFX involved."

Riteish is back again to kill Sidharth's love interest Tara in Marjaavaan or what it seems to be Ek Villain 2.0. However, he reveals that Vishu’s character is far different from the 2014 outing. “Rakesh Mahadkar in 'Ek Villain' is the boy-next-door type, while Vishnu in 'Marjaavaan' is vertically-challenged, and a very arrogant person. Every villain is different in his approach. Here, the emotional structure is very uncommon. His reasons for his evilness are different. Playing such eccentric character was an unique experience for me and I hope audiences will enjoy watching him on screen,” Riteish told.

The film will hit the screens on November 8.
