Mumbai: Sabyasachi Mukherjee has been a renowned fashion designer since the longest time. He is a favourite for Rani Mukerji. The designer was responsible for all attires for the Virushka wedding, and Deepika Padukone also turned his muse recently.

But a statement he made on women and sarees did not go down well with many women, for most obvious reasons.

Sabyasachi was speaking at the Harvard India Conference where in an answer to a question posed to him, he stated, "I think, if you tell me that you do not know how to wear a saree, I would say shame on you. It’s a part of your culture. (You) need stand up for it.”

While it was applauded then, the designer has faced the wrath of the Twitteratis for his comment.

Among the many people, comedian Tanmay Bhatt also took a dig and posted a screenshot of a saree collection from Sabyasachi from his website writing, "Maybe fewer young women are not wearing sarees because you’re selling em for 80K bro.”
